Review

Story

kuberulu The 500-crore worth Nizam jewelry is stolen by a don’s man. He buries that jewelry in Vivekananda Colony, takes some photos of the location by using his mobile camera, leaves that cell phone in a house and dies in an encounter. Don (Dr. Siva Prasad) knows that the cell phone is in Vivekananda colony. He sends his men to search for the camera.

kuberuluSiva Prasad (Sivaji) is from a remote village and is in deep debts because of his helping nature. He comes to Hyderabad to earn some money. He settles in Vivekananda colony along with his friends. He comes to know through a paper clipping about the robbery of jewelry. He is also in the lookout for the treasure. The rest of the story is all about how Siva Prasad finds out the treasure.

Artists Performance

kuberuluSivaji and Ali imitate YSR and Chandra Babu Naidu respectively. Sivaji has put on some weight and he need to reduce it. Farzana is alright as the female lead and she too put on fair bit of weight. Krishna Bhagawan creates some comedy with his typical one-liners. Kausha did a vamp role which has two songs. MS Narayana is funny as the doctor who falls for Telangana Sakuntala. Siva Prasad is loud as the villain imitating Nagarjuna of Don film.

Technical departments

kuberuluStory - screenplay - direction: This kind of story line needs an interesting screenplay and deft direction. And Kuberulu fails to convert a good story into an interesting film as the direction is shabby and the screenplay is bad. There are some occasional laughs, but the narration of the film is quite uninteresting.

kuberuluOther departments: Music by Jeevan Thomas is mediocre. He reused ‘Move Your Body’ (‘doob jaa mari pyaar mein’) song from Hindi flick Johnny Gaddar. Dialogues are adequate. Cinematography by Ram Pinisetti is not up to the mark. The production values of the film are also inadequate.

kuberuluAnalysis: Director Srinivasa Reddy failed to capitalize on an interesting plot. The movie suffers from shabby direction and inept screenplay. Whatever comedy it has is targeted mainly towards B and C centers. The fate of this film depends on how B n C masses take it.

Story:
The movie starts with the robbery of Nizam Jewelry by a gangster's (Dr Siva Prasad and Co) brother. The robbed jewelry will be buried in a secret place and the robber gets killed in a shoot out by police. The robber keeps some evidences at another place and conveys his people on phone about the whereabouts of treasure before his death. The news appears in a daily about the whole incident. Ram Babu (Krishna Bhagwan) aims at unearthing that hidden treasure to become rich.

On the other hand Sivaram (Sivaji), a hardcore fan of YS Rajasekhara Reddy aims at becoming Panchayat President. But he loses in elections in the hands of opponent. As he gets bankrupt, he moves to Hyderabad along with his friend (Ali). They happen to meet their common friend Rambabu there and the latter tells about the whole story of jewelry.

Who gets the treasure? The gangsters or the three aspiring Kuberulu? That follows rest of the story. A lady doctor (Farzana) adds as a catalyst for this treasure hunt.

Performances:
Sivaji started his performance by imitating YSR in walk and talk. Ali opened his talent by imitating Chandrababu. But the script and dialogues didn't match well to bring laughter with those imitations.

Krishna Bhagawan has delivered his trade mark comedy with instant punches.

Farzana didn't spill glamour in first half but okayed in second half during a song. Kousha is used for glamour quotient, while Bhuwaneshwari is there for luring audiences of lower benches with hardcore country exposing. Hema and Apoorva also appeared glamorous. Jothi Lakshmi, the old cabaret dancer appeared in a raunchy item song.

Kinnera, the TV lady, appeared on screen after a very long time with lot of weight on her body. People took time to recognize her.

Dr Siva Prasad has become a common face these days in many movies. He appears to have chosen film industry as his destiny keeping politics aside.

And coming to technical departments, cinematography is ok while action episodes and special effects deserve good mention.

Srinivas Reddy would have worked more on script part and the intensity of comedy. He made an average flick but not a wholesome laughing entertainer.

Analysis:
Although the film starts with YSR, Chandrababu imitations by lead roles, it's a routine 'treasure hunt' story that didn't get proper treatment. The film would have been good had it released a decade ago. It would have nurtured in proper way to meet the taste of contemporary audiences. The bomb blast sequences are used in the movie for comedy. But since the recent Mumbai Terror and Terrorist threats have become the burning issues, audiences didn't treat that as humor. In one sentence to say, the 'timing' of comedy is wrong.

Keeping that aside, director Srinivas Reddy didn't use much of his creativity for comedy as he used in Bommana Brothers-Chandana Sisters, Yama Gola Mallee Modalayyindi and Adirindayya Chandram. He has taken a routine subject and didn't even deal with novelty. The film is filled with great number of comedians but the out put is not commendable.

Both first half and second half appeared bore due to lack of interest boosters in narration. The film has got good openings with the brand image of Srinivas Reddy, but in fact he too cannot make 'good laughter shows' all the time.

Story:
Yarlagadda Sivaram (Sivaji) is a young guy in a village who aspires to become Panchayat board President. But he gets defeated in the hands of opponent (Chalapathi Rao) marginally. He then leaves his mother (Kavitha) in the same village and goes to Hyderabad in search of some source for earning and also to contact his friend Ram Babu (Krishna Bhagawan) who bluffs that he is Dubai. Ram Babu, glances at News in News Paper that Nizam jewelry was stolen by a gang and kept at a secret place. He plans to chase that treasure to become rich of worth Rs 500 Cr. When Sivarm along with his friend (Ali) meets Ram Babu, he shares this with his friends about the quest for jewelry. Whether they get the treasure falls rest of the story.

Presentation:
The stereo type comedy by Krishna Bhagwan is pumping in boredom among audiences. Ali's comedy also holds the same criticism. Sivaji tried to spill laughs with his imitation of YSR but there is no response from audiences. Ali also tried to imitate Chandrababu but that didn't appear to be comedy at all. There is enough of village glamour in the movie with Bhuwaneshwari, Jothi Lakshmi, Hema and Apoorva. Farzana has nothing big to play in this flick. Technical departments have given good performance but the script is a bit weak this time. Director Srinivas Reddy made an inferior film this time when compared to that of his previous flicks.

Conclusion:
Comedy didn't gel well with the audiences. Although there are many comedians in the movie there could be only couple of laughs in first half and three in second half. Nothing more than that could come out. Both first half and second half are on average mode. The ads of this film are running with lines 'Kadupu Chekkalayyela Navvinche Cinema'. But it has got no such punch. The film lacked the luster of comedy on a whole. When compared to Srinivas Reddy's previous films 'Bommana Brothers Chandana Sisters' and 'Yamagola Mallee Modalayyindi', this film is substandard.

Bharatstudent Verdict: Not so great.
