Review

Story

nenu meeku telusa Aditya (Manoj Manchu) has a strange disorder. His memory keeps refreshing every night he sleeps, but he wakes up with a blank mind every day. Only two people (his uncle and his personal doctor) know about his problem. He falls in a situation where he is accused of a murder. The rest of the story is all about how he rescues himself.

Artists Performance

nenu meeku telusaManoj Manchu: To do a film like 'Nenu Meeku Telusa?' is a brave and risky decision for a guy like Manoj Manchu who has a supporting father and his own banner. Manoj Manchu comes up with a neat performance as a guy suffering from recurring amnesia. His comedy timing is superb and his dialogues gel well with the concept of the film. The risky jumps he has done during the 8 and half minute chase sequence are excellent. His imitation of Mohan Babu and Ravi Teja got tremendous applause.

nenu meeku telusaOther actors: Riya Sen did the role of current love interest of hero. She is pretty good. Sneha Ullal is nice as the college love of the hero. Nassar plays the role of hero's uncle. Brahmanandam entertains as a fashion designer with the punch line 'what the frock!' Sunil is adequate. Surekha Vani's 'Sri Lakshmi Ganapati Films' commentary is entertaining.

Technical departments

nenu meeku telusaStory - screenplay - direction: The basic plot of the film is slightly inspired by a Hollywood film called 'Clean Slate (1994)'. It is very thin story line and films of this type of story lines should have been told in duration of one and half hour. Since this movie is aimed for two and half hours of duration, the director had to insert some subplots and prolonged flashback which has very little relevance to the main story line. Screenplay of the film is adequate in the first half, but needs improvement in the second half. Direction of the film is good in parts. The director could able to narrate a serious plot in the first half by injecting humor through hero's characterization. The following things are good in the film –

1. The way hero's character is introduced and established.
2. 8 and half minutes exciting yet hilarious chase sequence in the first half.
3. Manoj imitating Mohan Babu.
4. The picturization of enno enno song
5. The Brahmanandam's title rolling scene

The following things should have been taken care of:

1. Hero records his voice in an audio cassette and plays in a tape recorder. And if the tape is gspoiled, the entire exercise is futile. In this modern age, we have the facility of digital recording and computer. The audio tapes of hero are also stored in cassette format in doctor's office. (Probably the director used it for the screenplay convenience.)
2. The chase sequence is superb. But it has nothing to do with the main story of the film.
3. The friend's characters are introduced elaborately in the flashback format. But what do the friends have to do with story of the film? A song followed by a couple of scenes and confrontation would have been fine for the flashback episode.

nenu meeku telusaOther departments: Music of the film is good. The songs that standout in the film are title song and enno enno. Cinematography of the film is nice. But the colors used are very unnatural. The entire flashback episode has bleaching effect which does not look good. The editing cuts are too sharp and they disturb your eyes. The chase sequence composed by Manoj and Tim Robbins is superb. CG work is nice. Production values are good.

nenu meeku telusaAnalysis: First half of the film is decent. The tempo in the second half goes down. The climax of the film is alright. The plus points of the film are Manoj's performance and story idea. The negative points are length of the film and unnatural colors. This kind of story should be narrated in 1 and half hours. In order to make this film a two and half hour runtime film, the director had to add more sub plots and extend the flashback. On whole, Nenu Meeku Telusa? is strictly a multiplex film and is meant for elite audiences who look out for the 'out of the box' films. The general crowd might not like it. But the team of NMT must be appreciated for breaking the shackles of doing routine and formulaic films in order to do a different film.

Story:

A cryptic tale, the story begins with an accident that leads to a problem for Aditya (Manoj), he ends up losing his memory completely and now it is just a temporary thing, as in, he cannot recollect everything except for the moment he lives and the day. Every morning he is a new person trying to figure out who he is. For this, he uses the tape recorded which tells him the dos and donts. Only two people his uncle (Nasser) who is running Adi's companies and his doctor know the issue. Adi works in his same company as a manager and there he meets Madhumita (Riya) and starts having an affair. Madhu decides to get married to Adi and when his uncle tells her the problem, she has no issues about it. However, as luck would have it one day Aditya's uncle gets murdered and his body is in Aditya's car. He gets arrested and then comes Anjali (Sneha), the IPS officer for investigation. She has a flashback with Aditya that go a long way back. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:

The director has come up with a physiological and a suspense plot in the film and the presentation has been remarkable but it was brought down by a poor narration. Script was just okay and screenplay was smooth. Music was loud but two songs were really melodious, cinematography was terrific, editing needed to be more strict. Comedy was weak, Manoj has surely done some good training and groundwork and he has shown a lot of potential and will shine further if he does some good projects. Sneha was stunning and sensual while Riya was simply ravishing, her presence has been oozing out a lot of sex appeal. Brahmanandam's comedy was mediocre and Sunil did not have much to make an impact. Nasser was elegant as usual and the others did their bit without much to contribute.

Conclusion

The film would have turned out to be a well crafted treat if the makers had focused on more comedy and also the pace. It looked quite mild and the music was quite a distraction at few points, the technical values of the movie will surely leave the audience gasped as this is a unique and slick style of presentation but the execution of the story was not that great. Commercially, it is only meant for the multiplex and the young audience but mass will not be too amused with all the style and enamor. Perhaps an erotic song on one of the leading ladies would have brought a lot of difference instead of bringing in Kausha.

Bharatstudent Verdict: A passable entertainer, can be watched for its slick presentation. Mass audience will not relish it!!!

Story
A simple problem but quite complicated, the story is about Aditya (Manoj) who suffers from a problem, he does not remember what happened the day before or himself so he ensures that he switches on the tape recorder every morning he wakes up, this memory issue is due to an accident. The tape tells him not to discuss his problem with anyone and his uncle (Nasser) and doctor know the issue. Aditya works in the same company where his uncle is the MD but no one knows that relation too. He starts liking Madhumita (Riya) and she reciprocates his feelings. However, an incident takes place leaving his uncle dead and Aditya's tape recorder also gets spoiled. He is arrested on charges of murder and for investigating the case, police officer Anjali (Sneha) arrives in the scene. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.

Performances
Manoj has surely gone through some rigorous training before he hit the screen and his efforts can be seen. However, there is still a glitch in his expressions at emotional scenes and his dialogue delivery. Sneha Ullal was absolutely stunning and fresh faced with her captivating eyes but then her hairstyle was hassled. Riya has proved why she is known as the sex kitten and despite no skin show she oozed out enough glamour and its all in her eyes and innocence. Brahmanandam was just okay, Sunil was regular, Nasser was professional, the others did their bit as required.

The director has come up with a modern presentation and he made best use of the graphics and the technical teams. However, he missed out on the focus of his story and especially the narrative, there was not enough magnetism to make the audience think and in mystery.

Music was above average, cinematography deserves full credit. Editing could have been sharp at few edges, the dialogues lacked punch and they were straight and simple, screenplay was excellent.

Highlights:
Technical brilliance with cinematography and graphics
Background Sound
Action Episodes
Manoj's posture
Presence of Late Mallikarjuna Rao (a scene in court was shot with a substitute as he passed away while working for this film)
Manoj's humorous imitation of Pokiri scene
Manoj imitating Mohan Babu

Drawbacks:
No comedy
No mass entertainment except an item song by Kousha
Very Class narration

Big question/doubt:
How the hero couldn't recall what Taj Mahal is when he can recall and read the Telugu script on the wall when he wakes up every day? Is his Telugu reading ability is immune to forgetfulness? The movie failed in its fundamental this way!!!!!!!!!

Analysis
The first half of the film was more on the lighter side trying to introduce the characters to the audience but the second half is more on the murder plot and the flashback of romance. A lot of time was spent on these two aspects that the momentum required for a gripping climax was not there. In this age of IPODs and MP3s, using a tape recorder might be a bit old fashioned. The stunt sequences were good especially the chase sequence of Manoj where he does few Jackie Chan sequences. The mild pace of the movie dragged the energy out and though there were two hot girls to spice up the events, they were around in style and glamour but without enough oomph or passion in them.

The idea of coming up with the memory loss concept was good but then it was essential to include the commercial angles like the comedy and the content aspect which would be the revenue grosser. The technical side of the film is definitely worth a treat and this is actually a breath of fresh air when it comes to presentation. But that alone is not good enough to bring the audience, there needs to be a spine and that too a strong one which was missing. Since there are no mass elements, the makers need to focus on their promotion and publicity to make this a profitable affair.
